Wellhead equipment is the foundation of the well-control system. It supports casing and tubing strings, seals annular spaces, provides pressure-containing outlets, and connects to blowout preventers, choke manifolds, kill manifolds, and production equipment.
During drilling and workover operations, the wellhead must maintain pressure integrity while allowing installation of the BOP stack and related control lines. During production, it forms the interface between the well and the Christmas tree or flowline system.
Key technical parameters include nominal bore, working pressure, material class, temperature class, connection type, PSL, and PR level. Selection should consider formation pressure, fluid composition, sour-service conditions, temperature, and operating procedure.
Inspection should cover ring grooves, flange faces, studded connections, seals, hanger seats, lockdown screws, outlets, and valve interfaces. Hydrostatic pressure testing and documented traceability are essential for safe well-control service.
