1. Product Overview
The choke manifold is a key part of the well-control system. After the blowout preventer is closed, the choke opening is adjusted to regulate casing or annulus pressure and maintain the required bottomhole pressure during circulation.
Typical well-control functions include soft shut-in, controlled bleed-off, circulating out influx-contaminated or gas-cut drilling fluid, and replacing it with kill-weight drilling fluid to restore bottomhole-pressure control.
A control console can be supplied for remote operation, and the manifold can be engineered around the wellsite pressure rating, connection form, and process requirements.
2. Design Features
The dual-choke-line arrangement permits flow to be switched to the alternate choke line; work on the idle line is allowed only after that line is positively isolated, depressurized and verified safe under the approved well-control procedure.
Regulating casing or annulus pressure through the choke, while monitoring standpipe pressure as a key well-control parameter, helps stabilize bottomhole pressure and reduce the risk of further influx.
The valve arrangement supports controlled bleed-off and circulation-path changes in accordance with the approved well-control procedure.
Designed to the applicable requirements of API Spec 16C when specified. For sour service, wetted metallic materials are selected in accordance with NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 for the stated service environment.
